Troussier Calls A Local Squad
Casablanca - November 25, 2005

Morocco coach Philippe Troussier has called up 28 players for a three day training camp at the national sport complex in Maâmora centre.

The Frenchman, who replaced Badou Zaki in October, decided to include only players from the domestic league in his camp, that will start on Monday.

“I promised to give a chance to players who are playing in the national competition,” said the former Japan and South Africa coach.

“I know that there are a lot of them who deserve to join us in the MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt next year.

“The positive results of Moroccan clubs in continental and regional competitions proves that there is a lot of talent in our game.”

Moroccan champions FAR were crowned champions of the African Confederation Cup last week, after thrashing Dolphin of Nigeria 3-0.

Meanwhile Casablanca rivals Raja and Wydad were able to reach the quarterfinals of the Arab Champions League this week with remarkable victories over Zamalek of Egypt and Saudi giants Ittihad Jeddah respectively.

Troussier previously organised a training camp for the Atlas Lions’ European based players and tested them in a friendly against Cameroon in France.

The “White Witchdoctor” confirmed that his final list for the MTN Africa Cup of Nations will be a mixture of local and European based players.

“We need both kinds of players in our team,” he said.
