Cameroon’s Coton Sport have one foot in the Final of the MTN CAF Champions League after a 1-0 victory over Dynamos of Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday.

The only goal of the game was scored by Kamilou Daouda on 32 minutes as he headed home from Baba Ousmaila’s cross.

The home side started well and Benjamin Marere should have supplied a better finish to his mazy run on seven minutes.

Coton Sport signalled a warning to the home side on 25 minutes when they thought they had scored, but skipper Ahmadou Ngomna was adjudged to have used his hand to deflect the ball into the net.

But the goal they craved duly arrived on 32 minutes when home goalkeeper Zondai Nyaungwa failed to come for Ousmaila’s cross and Daouda headed home.

Thereafter the visitors were content to sit on their lead and Dynamos struggled to break down their well-organised defence.

Murape Murape tried a spectacular bicycle-kick just after the hour-mark that flew over the bar, which was as close as Dynamos got to finding an equaliser.

Visiting coach Alain Ouombleon was delighted with the result, which gives his side a huge advantage ahead of the second leg at the Omnisport Stadium in Garoua in a fortnight’s time, but warned against complacency at home.

“We are very happy with the result. We worked very hard to achieve this result. But I have a warning for my players that we are not in the Final yet,” he said.

“It’s still a tough task as I think Dynamos are a better team when they play away from home. They have had some good performances away from Harare. So we will be wary of them but it was a very good result.”
